Description
This nonfiction book is one in a series of books designed for shared reading at three early reading levels. The text for this book is written at level one and two. The text on the left-side page is for the parent to read aloud, while the simpler text on the right is for the child to read. A small icon on each page indicates that it is either a parent or child page. The book begins by explaining that space is the universe, and that all of the galaxies, planets, stars, meteors, asteroids, and space stations are a part of the universe. Each page contains detailed color photographs. Short explanations are given regarding each planet. A number of pages discuss astronauts and their training, clothing, and food. An excellent photo of the space shuttle is followed by information about astronauts and how they live in the space stations. The information seems appropriate for children at this level. This book is a very good introduction to the science of space and should inspire children to want to learn more. The shared reading method should be helpful for parents who are assisting their children with reading. Part of the "We Both Read" series.
