Description
This nonfiction book begins with a parent's introduction to explain how parents can read this book with their children. The parent reads the more sophisticated text on the left hand pages, while children can read the right hand pages on their own, which have been written at one of three early reading levels. This book, one of a series, indicates that it is level one-two. More difficult words are introduced in the parent's text in bold lettering. A "talking parent" icon precedes the parent's text, and a "talking child" icon precedes the child's text. The book begins with facts about the tropical rain forest, briefly discussing the layers of the forest and the animals, which include lemurs and capybaras. Each page has an excellent color photograph. The next pages give information about plants, birds, and jaguars. Several pages feature cocoa trees, frogs, bats, and tarsiers. Deforestation is discussed and includes text on how many people are now working to help save the rain forest. This book provides a good method for parents who are helping children to practice their reading skills and learn about science. Part of the "We Both Read" series.
