This is a great first reader with a high-interest subject. One or two short sentences per page, illustrated with bright, energetic pictures.

Turtle and Snake make careful plans for their camping trip. They get some books about camping, pack their tent and sleeping bags. Then they set off across the brook, climb over rocks, paddle across the pond and find the perfect camping spot. It turns out the woods are a little too scary at night, and Turtle and Snake end up in the truly perfect spot - at home - where they roast their marshmallows and sleep well. Very simple text accompanied by sweet and funny illustrations to entertain young readers.

Guppy Up by Jonathan Fenske

Have fun reading about this unusual fish! He's a very busy guppy. He's up, he's down, he mops, he shops, he drives, he plays the drums.... and a whole lot more. This beginning level reader has playful rhyming text and bright, bold graphics. It's an entertaining read with a few new vocabulary words sprinkled in.
