Description
Piper Green and the Fairy Tree by Ellen Potter, Leveled Books O-P
Piper Green lives on an island in Maine and takes a lobster boat to school. Her older brother has left to attend school on the mainland, and Piper misses him terribly. She puts on a pair of his earmuffs, and decides not to take them off. Her new teacher has a no-nonsense attitude, and won't let Piper wear the earmuffs. There is a stand-off. Piper exhibits the winning qualities of loyalty, stubbornness, and independence. As the story progresses we come to understand the depth of her feelings of loss, as well as her resilience. It's a funny, satisfying start to an early chapter book series.
